About Clear Lake Historical Society

Mission
The Clear Lake Historical Society's mission is to collect, preserve, protect and provide information from early area history to the present, on the natural and human environment of our corner of the universe.

Who We Are
Clear Lake Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1985. Our founder is Lawrence Copley whose interest in preserving the Milwaukee Railroad Depot inspired him to establish the Society. The Articles of Incorporation, dated 1985, included the following incorporators: Lawrence Copley, Pat Grell, Vickie Hensley, Bruce Mead, and Kim Stanley. The 1987 Bylaws were amended in 2007.

Interest in the Society waned when fire in the Depot rendered it unusable as a historical building. In 2004 a committee formed to begin preserving the history of Clear Lake as it pertained to the environment and past events. In 2007 new By-Laws were adopted to reflect this broad purpose. The archives are maintained at Clear Lake's Public Library in the History Room.

The Board of Directors sets general policies and guides the Society in managing its programs and financial affairs. Regular meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month. Board members serve three-year terms and are elected at the annual meeting. Current directors (2007) are: Susan Bescher (president), Judy Lincicum (vice-president/secretary), Anne Bagby (treasurer), H. Milton Duesenberg, Beverly Elder, Robert Ingersoll, Patricia Ludeke, and Maxine Worsley. Honorary Directors are Arlene Lashier, Jan Lovell, John Perkins and Jo Ann Watkins.

Membership is available to anyone subscribing to the Society’s mission. Dues are set according to the following categories: Senior Citizen/Student $15, Individual $25, Family $50, Sponsor $100, Benefactor $200. Membership runs for twelve months from January 1. The annual meeting is held each December for the entire membership.
